NENSA Women?s XC Ski Day 02/01
REGISTRATION IS CLOSED! FULL UP -- TRY IT NEXT YEAR! The eighth annual Women?s XC Ski Day is an event sponsored primarily by the New England Nordic Ski Association (NENSA) and TD Banknorth and hosted by the Bethel Nordic Ski Center at The Bethel Inn Resort. Join 200 other women for a day filled with cross-country ski clinics, lunch, and a fun relay at the end of the day, complete with raffles and prizes.
Sunday, February 1, 2009 The clinics are taught by highly qualified female instructors from across the country, some of them former Olympians. The overall goal of the event is to introduce new skiers to the sport, while encouraging seasoned skiers to elevate their ability level in a fun and positive environment. In addition to the actual event, a portion of the registration fees are donated to a local women?s charitable organization. This year it's R.E.A.C.H., http://reachmaine.org/ We hope you?ll join us for this exciting event! The Bethel Nordic Ski Center at The Bethel Inn Resort have been chosen this year to be the sponsoring sites. The registration fee ($25 before 1/26/09; $30 after 1/26/09) includes a day of ski clinics and lunch. Registration forms can be downloaded from the NENSA website at www.nensa.net (forms can also be filled out the morning of the event, but registration is capped at 200 participants and fills quickly, so it is recommended that you register early).

Animal Tracking Workshop and Field Trip 02/13 - 02/14
David Brown, a respected naturalist and animal tracker will present a talk entitled ?Animal Tracking in Winter? on Friday, February 13. A tracking field trip is scheduled for Saturday, February 14 from 9 to 11 am.
The Mahoosuc Land Trust is pleased to present a program on tracking winter animals with naturalist David Brown on Friday, February 13 at 7 pm. David Brown is a respected teacher and naturalist with over 20 years of experience interpreting trails and sign of New England mammals. He is also a bird expert. He has conducted wildlife surveys, trained docents, and provided wildlife education planning for public and private sponsors in Maine and Massachussetts. 2009 Flying Moose Classic 02/15
This event is hosted by the Bethel Outing Club and the Bethel Nordic Ski Center and held on Gould Academy and the Bethel Nordic Ski Center trail systems. This is a classic technique, mass start, point to point ski race that has 20 km or 10km distance choices. There are timed and non-timed options as well as youth events including a 200 meter lollipop course for toddlers and 6 km non-timed classic race for young children.
Mass start at Gould Academy campus, point to point 20 km or 10km.

Beginners T'ai Chi at SMH 02/23 - 04/06
There will be a beginners T'ai Chi class session offered at Stephens Memorial Hospital beginning on February 23rd and running on Monday nights through April 6th, class time is 6:30-7:30 pm. The course will be in the Harper Conference Room at the Ripley Medical Building at SMH, no experience necessary. Contact Betsey for more information regarding class fee.
Betsey Foster will be instructing the class. She has been offering T'ai Chi at the hospital for many years, and is happy to offer this new class, which is designed to be accessible to all individuals regardless of physical abilities. Betsey has studied T'ai Chi and Quigong since 1988, and has taught since 1993. She is the director or T'ai Chi & Qigong for All, and currently studies with Dr. Yang, Jwing-ming.

Black Mountain will hold its second of three scheduled Hill Climbs on Friday, February 27at 6:00 p.m. We have an up to 500 class, up to 699 class, up to 899, 900 and up and open classes. There will also be two classes for women. Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in both men?s and women?s classes.

Harlow's Helping Hands Benefit 02/28
John Harlow?s family & friends are hosting a benefit on February 28, 2009 at the Eagles Club in Rumford.
John is a Service Tech at Community Energy in Rumford. On December 7th, John fell in his yard at 9:30pm and was not found until 4:00am on one of the coldest, windest nights we have had. He was rushed to the hospital were he was listed as dead on arrival. They stabilized him and rushed him to CMMC were he has undergone several surgeries already. His hands were badly frostbitten. They are trying to save his hands and at this time they are not sure about his right hand. He will be out of work for six months to a year facing intense rehab and possible more surgeries.
Please join us on Saturday, February 28th for a fun-filled evening which will include a dinner, raffles, and auctions. There will be a Pork Loin Dinner with potluck side dishes & desserts from 4-6pm for $5.00 per person. Good Food Store is helping with the food. Take-out tickets are available also.
The dance will be from 7 to midnight -- no one under the age of 21 is allowed. Tickets are $5.00 per person. There will be a 50/50, Chinese auction, raffles, and lots of fun.
